On June 5th 2021 the exhibition Qatar Between Land and Sea. Art and Legacy opened at the Russian Museum of Ethnography. The display was the central part of the cultural program of the guest-country of the 24th St. Petersburg International Economic Forum the State of Qatar. The exhibition organized by the Cultural Creative Agency will be on the run till August 22nd 2021.
The display presents more than 200 objects from the collections of the National Museum of Qatar, the private gathering of Sheikh Faisal bin Qassim Al Thani, and the Arab Museum of Modern Art (Mathaf). The objects dates back to the 17th – 20th centuries and tell the visitors about traditions and lifestyles in Qatar.
The artifact on the exhibition closely related to the history of the Peninsula, its unique nature, first settlements in the deserts, and cultural and historical contacts of Qatar with various regions of the world. The basic sections of the display are pearling, falconry, religious manuscripts, military equipment as well as traditional carpets, musical instruments, utensils, clothes and jewellery.
Visitors of the exhibition will discover the rich heritage of Qatar and disclose cultural affinities with the traditions of peoples of Russia. The Russian Museum of Ethnography is the best platform for international cultural dialog, where the acquaintance with heritage of different groups of people helps us get to know ourselves and each other.
